for Shared Horizons
(THISH)

Who We Are

The Hague Institute for Shared Horizons (THISH) is an independent institute dedicated to advancing regional and international cooperation through research, dialogue, and stakeholder engagement.

In a world increasingly shaped by interconnected economies, shared environmental challenges, technological transformation, migration, and geopolitical shifts, cooperation has become both more necessary and more complex. While governments, businesses, civil society organizations, and communities often share common interests, opportunities for meaningful engagement and collaboration remain limited.

THISH was established to bridge this gap.

We serve as a neutral platform that brings together diverse stakeholders to identify common interests, strengthen mutual understanding, and facilitate practical cooperation. Through evidence-based research, policy dialogue, strategic engagement, and knowledge exchange, we help transform shared interests into collaborative action.

Based in The Hague, one of the world’s leading centers for diplomacy and international cooperation, THISH operates at the intersection of policy, research, business, and civil society, creating spaces where ideas can evolve into partnerships and partnerships can evolve into impact.

Why Shared Horizons?

The concept of "Shared Horizons" reflects a simple but powerful belief:

While differences in politics, culture, geography, or economic priorities may sometimes create barriers, long-term prosperity, stability, and development depend on recognizing and advancing areas of mutual benefit.
Whether the issue is economic growth, trade, climate resilience, technological innovation, migration management, regional stability, or sustainable development, meaningful progress is most often achieved through cooperation rather than competition.
THISH seeks to uncover these shared horizons and create pathways for stakeholders to pursue them together.

People, institutions, and nations often have more common interests than they realize.

Our Vision

A world where cooperation across borders, sectors, and societies creates shared prosperity, stability, and sustainable development.

Our Mission

To facilitate regional and international cooperation by connecting people, governments, businesses, and organizations, identifying shared interests, and creating opportunities for constructive collaboration.

Our Approach

Unlike traditional research institutions that focus primarily on analysis, or advocacy organizations that focus primarily on influencing policy, THISH combines research, dialogue, and engagement to facilitate cooperation.
Our approach consists of four interconnected steps:
1

Understanding

We conduct research and analysis to better understand challenges, opportunities, stakeholder interests, and areas of potential cooperation.

2

Connecting

We bring together stakeholders from different sectors, countries, and perspectives to foster communication and build relationships.

3

Facilitating

We create structured spaces for dialogue, exchange, and collaborative problem-solving.

4

Advancing

We support the development of partnerships, initiatives, and practical actions that generate lasting value for all stakeholders involved.
